Cristiano Ronaldo breaks Derby hearts

Rob Earnshaw watched Cristiano Ronaldo break Derby hearts – and then observed: ‘He has been toying with the Premier League for the last two seasons.’ It was the imperious Ronaldo who inevitably made the breakthrough at Pride Park to send Manchester United back to the summit of the Premier League.
The Portuguese star’s performance was astonishing as he, as well as Wayne Rooney and captain Ryan Giggs, wasted numerous chances – but not once did he let his head drop and he finally cracked Derby in the 76th minute with what was his ninth chance of 11 overall in the game. The post denied him on one occasion, and the superb Roy Carroll on others – before he beat the Derby goalkeeper from eight yards with a side-foot finish in meeting a low

Rooney cross. Earnshaw, making a rare start for the Rams this season, said: ‘The game was a real battle between Roy and Ronaldo, and Roy was winning it until the goal. You cannot help but admire him.
At least you do until you play against him – and then you don’t give him any respect and hope he has a bad day. ‘You have to make it as hard as possible, but we’re talking about one of the top three players in the world. You look at these last two seasons, and he has almost been toying with the Premier League. That’s how good he has been. He has been toying with everyone.
